The <em>Mare Nostrum<\/em> remains a key area for the future of the European Union (EU)\u2019s relationship with the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of this Workshop is to discuss and analyze the ongoing political conflicts in the Euro-Mediterranean region and of possible ways to bringing peace and stability to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The general topics of the Workshop may include, but are not limited to, the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em> Security in the Mediterranean and the Broader Middle East <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The future of Middle East<\/li>\n<li>The impact of the war between Israel and Hamas<\/li>\n<li>Perspectives on the Israeli\u2013Palestinian conflict: European and American approaches<\/li>\n<li>Turkey and Iran<\/li>\n<li>The Persian Gulf in Crisis: strategic, political, social and economic aspects<\/li>\n<li>Issues of maritime zones delimitation in the Eastern Mediterranean<\/li>\n<li>Islam and democracy in Arab states<\/li>\n<li>Energy security and pipeline diplomacy in the Eastern Mediterranean<\/li>\n<li>The impact of the war in Ukraine on the Mediterranean \u2013 Middle East region<\/li>\n<li>The United States, the Russian Federation and other BRICS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong><em> Migration, Refugee Crisis and Human Security in the Mediterranean and the Middle East <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The political and economic consequences of the refugee crises<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 Problems and prospects for migration in the Mediterranean region\u00a7\u00a0 Irregular migration, state security and human security in the Mediterranean \u00a7\u00a0 Security and migration policies in the Mediterranean \u00a7\u00a0 Responsibility to Protect (R2P) in the Mediterranean<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong><em> The present and future of Euro-Mediterranean relations <\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The EU and the Middle East conflict<\/li>\n<li>The Union for Mediterranean<\/li>\n<li>Prospects of regional and sub-regional cooperation in the Mediterranean area<\/li>\n<li>The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 Trade and economic relations between Mediterranean EU countries and other Mediterranean states\u00a7\u00a0 Cultural and religious dialogues in the Mediterranean and the role of the EU\u00a7\u00a0 Parliamentary dimensions of EU-Mediterranean relations<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Please submit your paper abstract (300-350 words) or your panel proposals (up to four papers per panel) by Monday 4<sup>th <\/sup>March 2024<\/strong>, which should also include the following information: names, title, status, corresponding address, telephone numbers and email.<\/p>\n<p>Notification of acceptance will be sent by<strong> Monday 18<sup>th<\/sup> March 2024<\/strong>, and the deadline for the submission of the papers will be on <strong>Monday 13<sup>th<\/sup> May 2024. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Conference will be held in downtown Athens at the premises of the Institute of International Economic Relations<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><strong>16, Panepistimiou St<\/strong><strong>r.<\/strong><strong> (El.<\/strong> <strong>Venizelou), Athens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PARTICIPATION FEES AND EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION DATES:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Until 5 May 2024: <strong>150 euros per person<br \/>\n<\/strong>After 5 May 2024:<strong> 225 euros per person<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fees will cover papers in electronic form, two buffet lunches and a reception.
